Course Survey Results 2019

The purpose of the Course Survey is so that we can try to plan to play Courses that suit the majority of Member's preferences.

The Committee's aim is to select and subsidise one 'top' Course each year. There will also be an attempt to try a Course that the Society has not previously played, the balance being those that Members have shown a preference to play.

Barton on Sea Preview

Located on the cliffs between Highcliffe and Milford-on-Sea, the 27 holes at Barton-on-Sea Golf Club offer fabulous views across the Solent to the Needles on the Isle of Wight, with three loops of nine that start and finish close to the clubhouse.

The club was formed in 1897 by a group of golfers that included Sir Robert Affleck and these founding members played on a 9-hole cliff top layout to the west of where the club is now located, next to the Barton Court Hotel. The Course went through a number of changes before the final course took shape when forty-eight acres were leased from the adjoining Ashley Clinton estate, allowing the club to engage Harry Colt to extend the existing course (retaining only a couple of holes) and set out a new 18-hole layout.

Centenary 2012

Our aims for Centenary Year

Re-energise the principle upon which our Society was formed back in 1921.
Improve relations with the Port and the Shipping lines.
Provide a thoroughly enjoyable golfing season on a selection of top quality courses.
Arrange a Flagship Event at a premier golfing venue.
Organise a special event, possibly away from a golfing venue where in a social and celebratory style we can toast our first 100 years - or maybe a golfing trip to play courses associated with the Society's history.

Planned activities (provisional at this stage):

  Hankley Common
  Remedy Oak

Celebratory Social Function with spouses.

Please let your Committee know, through me, any thoughts that you might have on celebrating this momentous year in the Society's history!
